Man f\u00e4hrt durch die Baum- und Strauchsavanne am Rand der Kalahari, wird vom Plateau des Waterbergs begleitet und sieht immer wieder Wild oder Perlh\u00fchner am Stra\u00dfenrand.<\/p>\n<p>Die Schotterstra\u00dfe ist normalerweise selbst mit einem Stadtwagen gut zu befahren; f\u00fcr unsere w\u00f6chentlichen Versorgungsfahrten nach Otjiwarongo benutzen wir stets unseren VW Bus. Nur an seltenen Tagen mit heftigen Wolkenbr\u00fcchen bilden sich gro\u00dfe Pf\u00fctzen und schlammige Stellen, die die Sonne jedoch rasch wieder austrocknet.<\/p>\n<p>Unabh\u00e4ngig davon empfehlen wir Selbstfahrern f\u00fcr die Rundreise in Namibia einen Allradwagen: Man f\u00e4hrt auf den Schotterstra\u00dfen einfach komfortabler und kann wegen der erh\u00f6hten Position besser Tiere beobachten, etwa im Etosha Nationalpark.<\/p>\n<p>Bitte halten Sie sich an Tempolimits: 120 km\/h auf Teerstra\u00dfen und 80 km\/h auf Schotterpisten. From the B 1 tarred road (Okahandja \u2013 Otjiwarongo) onto the C 22 tarred road and the D 2512 \/ D 2612 gravel road, which eventually joins the B 8 tar road (Otavi - Grootfontein).<\/p><p>Ghaub can be reached either via the D 2863, which connects to the B 8 at Kombat, or via the D 3022, which branches off from the C 42 between Grootfontein and Tsumeb.<\/p><p>The D 2512 \/ 2612 is a scenic road and it is less frequented than the tarred road via Otjiwarongo. Flanked by the Waterberg plateau, you drive through beautiful tree and shrub savannah at the border of the Kalahari, while you every now and again spot game or guinea fowl at the roadside.<\/p><p>Usually the gravel road is suitable even for a city car; for our weekly supply trips to Otjiwarongo we always use our VW bus. Only on odd days after hefty rain storms will one find big water and mud puddles on the road \u2013 and these are usually quickly dried out by the sun.<\/p><p>Nevertheless we do recommend a four-by-four vehicle for your self-drive tour in Namibia: Driving is simply more comfortable on gravel roads and the elevated sitting position allows for better game viewing in places like the Etosha National Park.<\/p><p>Please keep to speed limits: 120 km\/h on tarred roads and 80 km\/h on gravel roads.
